An Ancient Practice
Hot stone massage was used by the ancient Egyptians. Native American cultures have long used hot stones to facilitate cleansing both the physical body and the spirit. In Hawaii, hot lava rocks called pohaku are used. In traditional Ayurveda, a system of Ancient Indian medicine with 7,000 + years old roots, still used around the world today, a type of hot stone message was utilized.
How are Hot Stones Used?
Basalt stones are usually heated in water and held in the massage therapist’s hands or placed directly on the body. The sensation is extremely pleasant adding heat to specific areas on the body and enhancing the feelings of relaxation and peace.
